Personality

Catahoulas are super loving and protective towards their owners, however, they are cautious of strangers and other dogs. Since they were bred to be working dogs, they require a moderate to high amount of activity everyday. Training and socialization should begin at a young age, as it can be difficult when they’ve matured.

When training with this breed it can be a bit of a challenge, so this breed is not recommended for first time owners. You need to be patient and consistent. This breed also needs a big space to roam and exert their energy. So if you’re someone who does not have an outdoor lifestyle, then this dog is not for you.

Health

Standing at 20-26 in. and weighing 50-90 lbs, Catahoulas are generally a healthy breed. Although they may suffer from some of the common health conditions just like any other dog breed. If you’re thinking about adopting this breed, it’s best to find a reputable breeder and ask about the parent history.
