Chocolate
Chocolate contains a toxin that makes it hard for dogs to metabolize. If your dog consumes a decent amount of chocolate, they could experience nausea, vomiting, a high heart right, or diarrhea. If they consume a large amount, especially dark chocolate, it may cause seizures or even death.
Grapes/raisins
Grapes are highly toxic to dogs. One grape can be fatal for a small puppy or small dog. The symptoms can be vomiting, lethargy, diarrhea, or kidney failure.
Avocados
The toxin that is unsafe for dogs in avocados can cause vomiting, diarrhea, and even damage to areas in their chest or pancreatitis. So don’t drop any remnants of your avocado toast or guac.
Macadamia nuts
If your dog eats this nut, they could experience vomiting, diarrhea, high fever, or even difficulty walking. Consuming these nuts could also lead to inflammation of the pancreas as well.
Onions, garlic, leeks, & chives
These types foods contain a toxin that affects your dog’s blood cells. As much as a gram can cause a breakdown of their red blood cells leading to anemia.
Tomatoes
Tomatoes are generally non-toxic to dogs. Large quantities, however, can cause an upset stomach because of the acidity. So it’s best to avoid giving your dogs leftover pasta sauce and tomatoes all together.
Caffeine
Similar to chocolate, caffeine can cause high blood pressure and accelerated heart rate. Your dog can also experience vomiting, diarrhea, loss of muscle control, or seizures. If your dog ingests a large amount of caffeine, it could be fatal. So make sure to not leave your morning coffee unsupervised.
Milk & other dairy products
While dairy products are non-toxic to dogs, it can cause an upset stomach if given to them in large amounts. So it’s not recommended to give your dog the remains of milk from your cereal bowel.
