Why it’s good for you
It can make your overall mood better! Petting your dog, or any dog, has been proven to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. It essentially makes you feel good and relaxed. Unless you really don’t like dogs, why wouldn’t petting a dog feel good?
Why it’s good for your dog
Petting your dog obviously feels amazing to them, they’re the ones getting a nice massage! Petting them can help your dog feel relaxed, comfortable, and safe. If your dog gets upset or anxious, petting them can help soothe their current mood. They will also love you more and more. Giving them plenty of pats on the head, and rubs on the belly, helps strengthen the bond you two already have.
How to pet your dog the right way
If you’re a new dog owner or you just want more ideas of how to pet your dog, here are areas your dog loves being pet!
First, make sure you two are nice and comfortable. You can sit on the floor or your couch. Then gently begin petting your dog on the chest and shoulders. Once they’re comfortable, you can begin to lightly scratch that area. This will feel like an awesome massage for them!
After a while you can move to their back, and the base of their tail. My dog Romeo really loves getting his lower back scratched.
Your dog may even lay on their back. This is them giving you a sign that they want their belly rubbed, which shows how trusting they are with you. You can also try scratching the base of their neck and behind their ears; my dogs love that!
No matter which way you pet them, your dog will love you for it!
